NPH Honors the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

A celebration for NPH youth with disabilities and those in the local community.
December 4, 2017 - Dominican Republic

Casa San Marcos’ House Director, Guadalupe, along with Assistant Director, Alice, helped NPH Dominican Republic celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Sunday, December 3rd. Children, youth, and adults of NPH and of the local community shared in the celebration.

Zoe Edwards, Visitor and Godparent, describes Casa San Marcos in her own words.

"Casa San Marcos was built in 2013 to house the children of the NPH Dominican Republic home with special needs. They are currently caring for thirteen children with disabilities ranging from Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome to Autism, cognitive delays and Rett Syndrome. Pictures of these kids past and present line the walls in homemade photo frames; it is a place of love and support in every sense of the word."

The day began at half past nine with a short walk around the park. Guests and NPH children celebrated mass in the chapel and enjoyed a delicious lunch in the main park, accompanied by games, clowns, and music.

Smiles, cheers and good attitudes were shared throughout the day by our beloved children in San Marcos and their invited guests. We are happy to report it was a blessed day and we cannot wait to celebrate it next year!
